Awesome customized Tees

Another post like the Sock Snowmen that requires little crafting talent, but yields great results.

You will need:

A t-shirt – Try Fruit of the Loom value weight. I got one or £2.49 from ebay and they have all sizes and tons of colours to chose from.
Bleach.
Chalk.
A paintbrush.
A plastic bag or binliner.
A copy/picture of a design.
photo 1

Use the plastic bag inside the shirt to separate the fabric so that only the front is affected by the bleach. Make sure the bag is laid out flat and that your tee is laid out on a flat surface. Outside would be good, but if not possible, choose an area that isn’t carpeted!

Next, use the chalk to roughly sketch your design. Don’t worry about being too accurate or arty….the look we are aiming for is distressed and a bit splattery so neatness isn’t an issue. My Avengers A looks a bit squished up, but it’s close enough!

Next, use the paintbrush to start painting bleach over your design. Follow the chalk marks and focus on this part first. You will start to see results almost immediately. The splodges and marks can be added as you paint (dripping brush!) and then on purpose afterwards 😉

Next, put your shirt in cold water for a couple of minutes to wash away any excess bleach. I ran mine under a cold water tap for 2 minutes, making sure to cover the whole of the bleached design. You could also pop your tee under the shower if that’s easier.

The next step is to wring the tee out and pop it into the wash. I washed mine with a tiny amount of washing liquid on a 40 degree quick wash. I left it to dry overnight and this is the final result (which my husband, the recipient of the tee) absolutely loved!

There you have it! A totally customized, one off tee!
You can try this method with other colour tees to see how different they turn out….or try different fabrics and t-shirt brands to see how the bleach reacts. We are planning an olive tee with a Captain America logo, a burgundy tee with an Iron Man Arc reactor and a brown tee with a Firefly logo.

Original inspiration for this project came from this post at Eight & Sixteen.

Baftas 2014 Red Carpet Fashion – hits and misses

BAFTA_award

Awards season is now in full swing.

Just ahead of the Academy awards next month were the BAFTAs, which took place last night.  It was a glittering night where Hollywood and UK film royalty (and also actual royalty) stepped out onto the (rainy) red carpet.

Who nailed the red carpet look? And who failed? Here are our hits and misses.

hitlupita-nyong-o-bafta

Break out star Lupita Nyong’o (12 years a slave) looked absolutely stunning in this green satin Dior number.  The colour is fresh, the cut is elegant and feminine and the gold band at the waist is echoed simply but effectively in the arm jewellery. Everything about this outfit is spot on.

missmichelle-rodriguez-2014-baftas

Michelle Rodriguez….I honestly don’t know where to start, so I’ll start at the top. First off, her hair is a complete mess. Fine if you want to go for the carefree beach hair look on the beach, but at a red carpet event you should be polished and neat. Next, again – we’re not at the beach love. The surfer beaded jewellery (and that’s what it is, trust me), is great for the surfer bad ass chick beach look, but again – you’re at a movie award event at a prestigious location! Sparkly jewels and pretty accessories work.  Wooden surfer dude looking beads don’t. The dress.  THE DRESS.  Could have been cool if it wasn’t a) creased b) utterly ugly.  She could have got around the dress with the right hair, make up and jewellery but she failed on everything.  Ugh.

hit3711776_wenn21093234

Maybe a controversial choice but I love Gillian Anderson in the striped blue satin gown with the flowing detail at the back.  She looks a little unsure (as though she forgot something….like maybe finishing her hair off?), but she gets away with it.  The earrings work too. Pretty.

missLily-Allen-009

Pink & Orange together often work, when done correctly. But the cut and shape of this gown is utterly naff and so are Lily’s hair accessories. From top to toe I think she looks like a complete joke, but since my favourite red carpet failure Helen Bonham Carter wasn’t there someone else had to provide the laughs.  Thanks, Lily Allen.

hitbaftas-2014-cate-blanchett

Cate Blanchett just looks so elegant. The dress is gorgeous and the necklace is very ‘Lord of the Rings’ and is a fab, pretty statement piece that works well with the gown. The gentle coiffed hairdo is feminine and well groomed but still loose enough to look soft on her face. The whole look is spot on.

miss2-19027306-1

Joely Richardson…..hair, good.  Barely there make up, bad.  Chicken neck with no jewellery to hide said chicken neck, very very bad. Shapeless, loud, garish dress from Eastenders market – unforgivable. Weird middle toe being bigger than big toe and poking out of peep toes – horrific. Truly dreadful ensemble. Someone get the woman a stylist.

hitAmy-Adams-2014-BAFTA-Awards

Playing it safe in black but totally rocking it with perfect hair, gorgeous red statement lips, sheer chiffon overlay, on trend nails and jewellery is Superman’s Supergirl, Amy Adams. She looks elegant, poised and gorgeous.

missBAFTA Film Awards 2014 - Arrivals - London

Pearly Queen Maggie Gyllenhal has managed to make herself 50 years old.  The hair would work with the right clothing but the high collar on the madly embellished jacket just does not work. Pity, as the skirt is actually really pretty and so are the sleeves. Picture this gown with a plain black satin bodice…..yeah.  That.

hitmovies-bafta-2014-3055

Chat show Queen Oprah Winfrey is rocking this Stella McCartney number. The georgette skirt is beautifully flattering, whilst the fitted lace bodice contains Oprah’s ample assets well. The satin bow completes this gown, in a colour that suits Oprah down to the ground. The jewellery and clutch are gorgeous. I would have preferred if she had done something decent with her hair, but she still outshone many women half her age and half her size.

missEmma-Thompson-In-Maria-Grachvogel-2014-BAFTAs

First of all, it’s not that cold, Cruella. Second, if the dress had been in red satin, it would have worked. But it isn’t so it looks like a sack of wrinkled crap. A shame as I love the hair.

So that’s the top 5 hits and misses.  And now, onto the special awards.  Emphasis on special for some of these.

The Power couple award….movies-bafta-2014-629

Great shoes, Ange.  Might have looked better with a DRESS.  Making a statement is Hollywood’s (once) prettiest couple in his n’ hers suits. It works, I’m just not a fan….and here’s how you do it properly…

Christian Bale & wife Sibi Blazi
EE British Academy Film Awards 2014 - VIP Arrivals
A good suit, a nice dress, happy arm in arm picture.  See, that wasn’t too hard was it?

The who the hell do you think you are? award469730613-1Let me give you a reminder, love – you are Fearne Cotton, radio DJ, sometimes presenter and nostrils massive. You are not Marilyn Monroe. Your roots need doing, your hair is awful, your dress is nasty and you are not a star. How the fudge did she get an invite and who the hell said it was okay to turn up looking like this??!

The ‘cool happenings’ at Bafta awardsarticle-2560812-1B8F071000000578-987_634x477

Emma Thompson articulately sums up my entire thoughts about Stephen Fry and his very poor, unfunny, mumbly, stuttering turn as presenter.

article-0-1B8EFBC700000578-355_634x478

Tinie Tempah high 5’s the future King of England.  Risssspeck!

So, what are your thoughts? Agree, disagree? Did we miss someone who looked amazing or someone who made Lily Allen look well dressed?

We’ll be back early in March for the Oscars 🙂

Gorgeous baby Peter Rabbit stuff, from The Gap

There is so much stuff I want.  Why am I not a millionaire?!

But, with a little boy on the way (due April 1st – yes, ha ha ha), I’m sure I can stretch to some of these things as the prices are so reasonable and the stuff is SO cute. Plus, I think these fab pieces are the sort of things you could sell on once you are done with them.

Very cute, right?  The collection includes shoes, trousers, socks and more.  Gap also have a range for baby girls. See more HERE.
